Welcome to the Nouri Foundation

Abdelhak Nouri, or “Appie” as he is commonly known, was living his dream of playing for Ajax, when he collapsed on the pitch during a pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen in July of 2017. As a result of that incident, he suffered permanent brain damage. Since that day, he remains in a low level of consciousness.

As a player, Abdelhak was already highly involved in helping children with disabilities. He recognized the importance of sport and play to them, not only in terms of health, but also in terms of their social contact with others.

For children with disabilities, discovering their talents and passions through sports and play can play a huge role in building up their self-confidence. That is why it is so important to invest in sport and play facilities where disabled children can play and make friends with other children.

We are now in the process of setting up the foundation. We will keep you informed of our plans and future developments.

There is no cure except Your cure. Grant us a cure that leaves no illness.

Abdelhak ″Appie″ Nouri (born 2 April 1997) played as a midfielder for Eredivisie club Ajax. Nouri operated primarily as an attacking midfielder, but could also be deployed as a winger. Nouri was born in Amsterdam, and is of Moroccan descent. He made his name as a footballer largely in his youth, attracting attention from multiple publications as a future star. He was named as one of the best 40 youth players by The Guardian in 2014.

Nouri is a youth exponent from the academy at Ajax. He made his professional debut for the reserve side, Jong Ajax, on 13 March 2015, in a Eerste Divisie game against VVV Venlo. On 21 September 2016, Nouri made his official first-team debut in a KNVB Cup match against Willem II, and scored a goal. His exploits throughout the season for Jong Ajax saw him being gifted the Player of the Season award for the 2016–17 season.

Who we are

Abdelhak Nouri has always been passionate about access to sports for all children, particularly children with a disability. He learned from a very young age what the importance is for disabled children to participate in sport and the value of integrated teams. Sport is not only about winning it is for an important part about having fun and learning important social skills that can help you through life.

Nouri has always been recognized as an extraordinary talent with more capabilities than many others, that is why he saw it as a responsibility given by God to take care of those who are in need. That is why we can safely say that his deepest wish would be to set up the Nouri Foundation and help as many children as we can to put a smile on their face.

What we do

Funds raised by the Nouri Foundation will help to provide products or services that will enable disabled children to participate in sport and play. With our funds we will be able to create ‘Nouri Playgrounds’ to enable children with a physical disability to participate in sporting activities. Integrated teams is our goal so typically developing kids can play alongside kids with disabilities.

It’s important that kids are able to play on integrated teams so they can learn the sport, have fun and make friends. Emotional development like leadership skills, following instructions and team fellowship are important aspects of being involved in sports. That is the purpose of the Nouri Foundation.
